This brief assess the promises made and policies guaranteed by the political parties for the 2013 elections in their political manifestoes. The paper begins by taking general view of the various mainstream political parties’ manifestos, before looking at how each party has focused on certain issues. The issues in focus are economy and energy, social sector especially health and education, women and minorities, extremism and terrorism, youth and foreign relations. The paper concludes that in Pakistan, democracy is cautiously moving out of a purely survivalist impulse, therefore to move forward, the increased public accountability through elections and parliamentary oversight, the political parties are now compelled to improve their political programs
