Appointed to the position of Minister for Women Development in Sindh Assembly since August 2018. Syeda Shehla Raza started her political career in 1986 by joining People’s Student Federation (a student wing of Pakistan People’s Party) during military rule when there was complete ban on political activities. She served as Joint Secretary of People’s Student Federation (PSF), Karachi University and then as Joint Secretary, PPP Women Wing Karachi Region. In 2005, she became General Secretary of Women Wing, PPP Karachi Division. She was elected as member of Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 2018-13 and 2013-18 on the reserved seat from platform of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian. During the tenure of both assemblies, she has served as Deputy Speaker. On 30th May 2013 she was elected as Deputy Speaker by securing 86 votes out of 152 votes and previously she was elected un-opposed Deputy Speaker, Provincial Assembly of Sindh on April 7th, 2008. She is also Vice President, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Sindh Branch. |
