RAWALPINDI: That the local leaders are lobbying for securing party tickets to reserved seats of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) for their relatives.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has notified results of reserved seats in the local government (LG) elections in Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation.

LAHORE: Opposition parties have requested the Lahore High Court to set aside latest amendments in the Punjab Local Government Ordinance of 2013 (amended) under which election of chairmen and vice chairmen of the district councils and the municipal committees and mayors and deputy mayors of the metropolitan corporations and municipal corporations had been allowed through an open division instead of a secret ballot.

RAWALPINDI: Due to internal politics and groupings, the number of PPP members in the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has reduced from three to one.

TAXILA: As many as 118 candidates have filed nomination papers for 36 reserved seats in the local government of Taxila and Attock.

LAKKI MARWAT: Local government representatives held a protest demonstration in Lakki city on Monday to press the government to ‘fully’ devolve powers to the grassroots level.

MANSEHRA: The nazims and naib nazims of village and neighbourhood councils in Mansehra have formed a committee to plan agitation against the provincial government’s failure to give them funds for development and non-development expenditure including payment of rent of their offices.

BADIN: Pakistan Peoples Party clinched three of the four union councils and eight of the 18 wards where polling was held on Saturday, according to unofficial results declared with a delay of a day and a half.

GUJRAT: Only 43 candidates have applied against 117 reserved seats for minorities in rural union councils of Gujrat district; 830 candidates have applied against 585 reserved seats for women, peasants, youth and minorities in 117 union councils (UCs).

SANGHAR: In an unprecedented upset, the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) lost 10 of the 11 town committees in Saturday’s local government election for the first time in the history of the district, whose population is dominated by followers of Pir Pagara, the spiritual leader of the Hur Jamaat who also heads the party.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: MNA Makhdoom Khusru Bakhtiar of PML-N claims that his party has got support of a majority of chairmen for the top slot of Rahim Yar Khan district council.

BADIN/SANGHAR: Polling for four union councils and two town committees of Badin district was held in an absolutely peaceful and orderly manner.

LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Husain and former deputy prime minister Pervaiz Elahi say the PML-N has introduced a “black law” after announcement of the election schedule for district councils and mayors, adding they will challenge it in court.

SAHIWAL: Senior local leaders of the PML-N have shown their reservations about the nomination of close relatives of the PML-N minister and MPA and office-bearers of the party for the reserved seats of district council and municipal corporation of Sahiwal.

MULTAN: As the process to complete local governments has resumed in Punjab, 70 new members will join District Council, Municipal Corporation and Municipal Committees of Multan against the reserved seats on February 14, The Nation has learnt.
