ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday maintained an election tribunal’s verdict regarding Raees Mehboob Ahmed’s success in general elections 2013 and dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of PML-N Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from PP-289 Rahimyar Khan (V) constituency.

KARACHI: A day after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement blamed it for a delay in holding the next phase of local government elections, the Sindh government sent an official request to the Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday to issue a schedule for indirect elections on over 9,500 reserved seats in the province.
LAHORE: An election tribunal on Thursday allowed two independent candidates of NA-122 to become party in a petition challenging victory of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the by-poll. The tribunal member, Rasheed Qamar, took up applications filed by Khurram Qureshi and Manzoor Laeequr Rehman, two candidates who contested the by-election of NA-122 independently.
QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned all the four candidates who contested the by-election on a Balochistan Assembly constituency (PB-50 Turbat-3) to Islamabad on Jan 11.
LAHORE: An election tribunal on Thursday sought arguments on maintainability of an election petition filed by PTI candidate Abdul Aleem Khan alleging irregularities and pre-poll rigging in the NA-122 (Lahore) by-election.

GWADAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has failed to announce the result of by-election of PB-50-Turbat-3 where polling was held on Dec 31.
TOBA TEK SINGH: The election campaign for by-election to PP-89 ended on Monday amid big rallies and public meetings were both the PML-N candidate and independent candidate attempted to muster maximum support for their victory.
SIALKOT: The PML-N factions across Gujranwala Division could not agree to bring joint candidates for the special and reserved seats of the local bodies in the division as all of them have sent separate lists of their favourite persons to the party leadership.

TOBA TEK SINGH: In a dramatic move, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) cancelled on Thursday the ticket it had granted to Rana Muhammad Shafiq for PP-89 by-election and declared independent candidate Syeda Sonia Raza as the PTI-supported candidate.
National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has informed the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms on Tuesday that voters’ biometric verification, use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be possible in the next general elections (2018), sources said. Zahid Hamid chaired the in camera meeting of the sub-committee of electoral reforms on Tuesday. Chairman NADRA Usman Yousaf Mobeen gave a presentation to the committee on biometric use in the general elections.
